Athens, Florence, Chicago, Barcelona, Pretoria, Paris, Syracuse, Miami, St. Paul, Little Rock, New York City, Cazenovia… These are a few of the places where Rodger Mack's art has been collected or shown.  In May/June of 2001, “the Italian Influence” was exhibited at Stone Quarry Hill Art Park.  This summer the Art Park is pleased to host a exhibition of this important American Artist whose life was a significant influence on many artists and the world of Art.

We are pleased to report that the curator of this show is Teddy Aiken, Director of the Graduate Program in Museum Studies at Syracuse University and an old friend and colleague of Rodger Mack.  It is too soon to give much detail about the work selected for this show except to say that three pieces, which are in the Art Park’s permanent collection, will be present.

Part of the excitement we are feeling about this show is the anticipation of the premier of a new thirty-minute film about Rodger and his work produced by our collaborator, Linda Herbert.  Moreover, another collaborator, the Society for New Music, has commissioned two composers to create music for the film.  Rodger loved music and his sculpture reflected this. Composers Marc Mellits and Ed Ruchalski both of who love art, return the favor with the music for this film.

The show opens Saturday July 26 and will run into early October with a brief interruption in August when the Pottery Fair occupies the Winner Gallery.
The opening reception which is free and open to everyone runs from 2pm to 5 pm on Saturday July 26.  The film will be screened at the reception and we expect the presence of the filmmaker, composers and the show’s curator.  Following the reception the Society for New Music will present a live performance of this new music plus additional pieces in the Art Park amphitheater as part of their Cazenovia Counterpoint series.

This Rodger Mack exhibition promises to be one of the more memorable events in the life of the Art Park.  We hope that you and all our members and friends will be able to participate.
