Courtney Frisse

Courtney Frisse is a multimedia artist living and working in Portland, Oregon. For over 25 years she has used outdoor light projections to transform urban, rural, and desert landscapes.  A former resident of Syracuse, N.Y., her first presentation of 80 sequential building sized images, "Light in New York", took place in downtown Syracuse in 1980. "Disarming Light", a series of 40 foot high projected images at the United Nations Plaza, coincided with the one million strong N.Y.C. Disarmament Rally in 1982.  “WelCame to Egypt”, a series of photographs of Egyptian hieroglyphs, carvings and statuary were projected onto giant columns supporting the largest bridge in Portland, Oregon, in 2002. She recently installed "Ceci N'est Pas Une Pipe Volante!", a series of circling projections, in galleries in Portland, Oregon. Still photographs of her landscape light projections from Death Valley, the Badlands, the Great Dismal Swamp, White Sands Missile Range, and other desolate locations have appeared in numerous exhibits.  Her work has been supported by grants from several arts organizations including C.A.P.S., N.Y.F.A., N.Y.S.C.A., and Lightwork.
